About us

Welcome to Knowledge Summit Dublin, a global gathering created by and for the knowledge management community.

The vision was to create a community driven summit where exchange of knowledge between delegates is prioritised, instead of being spoken at. The entire room is involved at every step. This is sometimes referred to as an ‘unconference’.

Knowledge Summit Dublin protects space for every voice, fosters sense-making, and shares proven problem-solving techniques so you can return home ready to use knowledge as a force multiplier for your mission.

Our founder

Knowledge Summit Dublin was founded by Barry Byrne, whose story shapes the DNA of this conference.

Two decades as a military officer taught Barry the life-saving power of sharing knowledge—a lesson that drives his journey today. After his service, he lectured in Trinity College Dublin, had articles on KM published, and is now global leader of knowledge management at Novartis, a leading pharmaceutical company, using knowledge to help reimagine medicine to improve lives.

Barry brings his Irish heritage and passion to every detail of the summit. This year, that means sailing adventures, hikes through the Wicklow Mountains where he grew up, and evenings in authentic Dublin pubs. These experiences aren’t just extras; they reflect the summit’s spirit of generosity and the belief that knowledge thrives when people share not only what they know but who they are.

How it works

  • Flipped rules

Presenters speak for 20 minutes, we discuss in groups for 15 minutes, then co-create actionable solutions and learnings with the whole room for 15 minutes.

  • Talk to Fionn

One-on-one conversations with KM experts, inspired by Irish legend. Ask anything—a tough challenge, a big idea, or career advice and get practical insights from seasoned professionals. (The name comes from Fionn MacCumhaill, who gained wisdom by tasting the Salmon of Knowledge—a playful nod to learning through experience.)

  • Our theme: Humans in the Loop

This year’s theme was born from what rang loud and clear at last year’s summit: the need to keep humans in the loop. AI is powerful but human insight is needed to ask better questions, interpret nuance, and make meaning. Sessions will dive into what it truly means to keep humans in the loop—shaping a future where people lead and AI supports.

  • Knowledge exchange pods

End each day in small groups to meet new people, reflect, share and cement your learnings from the day.
